To qualify as "A Richmond Original," your establishment must have been founded, born, or originated within the Greater Richmond Metro area. This includes a range of locations that contribute to the dynamic cultural and economic tapestry of our region.

Defining the Richmond Metro area

The Greater Richmond Metro is broadly defined to include both the immediate urban center and the surrounding counties. For our certification, this encompasses the following:

  • Richmond City

  • Chesterfield County

  • Henrico County

  • Hanover County

  • Goochland County

  • Powhatan County

  • New Kent County

Each of these areas brings its unique flavor and history to the collective identity of Greater Richmond.

Special Designation: Richmond City

Entities specifically established within the historical bounds of Richmond City will receive the "Richmond City Original" designation. This special acknowledgment highlights businesses that are rooted in the heart of the city, reflecting the core of Richmond’s urban spirit and heritage.
